Tips to reduce your risk of falling

  • Be physically active everyday to improve your posture, strength and balance. Exercise classes specifically designed to improve falls prevention for the elderly are available at Marina Point daily. Please see the calendar for a complete schedule.
  • Have your vision and hearing checked annually.
  • Wear good shoes (preferably lace up) that support your feet. Avoid slippers and high heels.
  • Use aids such as walkers or canes: these devices should be viewed as tools to help you do more and not as a sign of aging.
  • Assess your home safety:
    • Appropriate lighting
    • Tripping hazards
    • Hand rails and grab bars in the bathroom
    • Use non-slip mats or tape the mats to the floor
